Not another post about moving!

I'm sure I must be a complete bore by now harping on and on about the move but quite honestly there isn't that much else to tell you.

Our visit to the school was a success - despite the dismal/crap/awful weather on Thursday, Raj crying about moving, Amber deciding that she didn't want to do waldorf anymore and the house we might end up renting being smelly and having the pokiest of kitchens. And then this morning I finally cracked and burst into tears.

After a lot of heated discusions we've decided that they all have to go the same school because there is no way that we can find an alternative for Amber from this distance (we don't even know where we'll be living eventually). We're probably going to take the smelly house - it was lived in by an old person and has that smell of age and decay about it. I think we just need to clean it and I'm going to go around with a smudge stick and purify it (as I do every time we move). We've also decided to go a week later as I think to leave two days after Raj's party and our Ceilidh would be a bit much. I also need to go and see the parentals in half term whilst I'm still this close to them. The end of Feb feels more manageable and I kind of want to stay in my nice warm kitchen with the Aga as long as possible to tell the truth.

After the flood of tears I feel much better (blame it on the move, the PMT (period started this morning), the stress around Amber's schooling). Thankfully we've made the above decisions and now we can just get on with it.

I'm glad to say that the area we'll be renting in is very nice. The school is lovely and such a contrast to ours which has no facilities whatsoever. The teachers seem very dedicated and the parents that we met really lovely.

I've had another bit of clear out and I've listed some craft books on Ebay if anyone is interested. They are here, here, here, here and here. Other than that I have these two books is anyone wants them:

Book2

and

Book3

and also these three skeins of thick sock wool that I'll never get around to using:

Three people are welcome to a skein each. It's Briggs and Little Heritage 2 ply and I can point you to a free pattern for this wool which knits up like this:

I think they'll make great boot socks.

This morning I have my penultimate dollmaking lesson at school. I have to be honest and say that I will not miss these lessons. Doll making with ten children is bloody hard work even if I do have an older girl helping me. I seem to be running ragged trying to help everyone but when I look at the dolls and the happy faces of the twelve year olds it does seem kind of worth it.

Apologies for not re-reading this post to check that it makes any sense ..................

Awwwwwwww. Moving sucks. I'm glad you had a good cry though, it's very relaxing afterwards don't you think?
It's got something to do with balancing hormones so maybe that's why we do it along with the PMT.
The books look really interesting, I'd love to swap something for "The Incarnating Child if you're willing?
Hang in there, it'll all come good...Xxx

Good grief, I hope things calm down a bit for you soon Simmy- moving is always so stressful.
The house will turn out fine I'm sure, once you put a fresh broom through it!
The yarn looks lovely, especially the red but I'm in Australia.
If you have the energy to post to Australia, let me know as I will happily pay the postage.
If not, no matter- wishing you all the best with your moving preparations.

Well, remember that a rental is temporary which is why you are doing it! We had a rental while we were building and it became home. In fact we ended up being very happy there because it WAS a rental and we didn't have any upkeep responsibilities. We felt so free on the weekends! Amber may discover that she does like Waldorf once she's in a larger school with more facilities and faculty. Good luck with it all!

When you get into the new smelly house, take a gallon of white vinegar with you and some bowls. Put a bowl of vinegar in each room, closet, etc., before you leave. When you come back it'll smell much better. (No, it won't smell like vinegar, just better.)

I'm so sorry for you. Things WILL improve. What you need now is a long, hot bath!

It will get better. The children will become aclimated into the school so quickly. And the more advanced facility will make it seem maybe more modern to Amber. As to the stinky house issue...perhaps setting about bowls of vinegar (you will not smell the vinegar) and then small pans of charcoal will draw the smell out. I have had great results with both. And just a good old fashioned cleaning will make all the difference. Any area need new paint? Even just painting ceilings gives a room a new look and helps with smells. Keeping happy thoughts for you.

The lady that suggested the vinegar trick is onto something - I'm assured by my mother in law that cleaning with baking soda does the same thing. I do empathise though, a man died in our home before we bought it and it was a nicotine-stained hellhole when we arrived.

I'd love some of your sock yarn if there's any left, and I'm not fussy about colour. I figure since I have next week off work for "honeymoon" then I should find something to do that isn't work!

Oh Simmy, I can so relate to your moving issues. My family moved country (from NZ to Australia)to follow up a job opportunity and we too sold our house to move into a rental. An old lady used to live here, and I still can't get rid of the smells. I'll try the vinegar and baking soda ideas. Moving and settling in was sooo much hard work. But also very very rewarding. We are so glad we took the plunge and moved. Its such an adventure, Simmy. Take care and best wishes to you and your family

I just moved this past summer, and it is a workout, for sure! Hang in there!

Well if it helps, when I moved into my house the girl who lived in it before with her four children and four cats left it stinking and incredibly filthy. (It all had to be repainted, the walls were pillarbox red in all the downstairs area).
It did take some cleaning but I absolutely love it here now and do do my children. So please don't be put off by it smelling of all things old and decaying, I am pretty sure within a week it will start smelling lovely and like your own home!
Good luck!
Jennie.

So sorry to hear that things are so upsetting at the minute. Rentals are great and I am sure that once you get on top of the smell, it will be fine. Have been meaning to write to thank you for the wool - it came last week - but the computer got a virus over the weekend and it wasn't safe to send anything out. I have already started crocheting it into a scarf - thank you so much!

Moving is always hard and a real strain. Just keep taking deep breaths and telling yourself that a month from now you'll be well on the other side of it and also that the rental is only a temporary thing. Once you get settled in and have your things about you it will be a home, afterall home is where the heart is, and you will have your lovely family all around you. where they are, there is your heart. :-) I have always thought it is quite exciting to move to a new place once you get over all the hard work! XXOO Praying that you will get through this alright, and knowing that you shall!

p.s. My girls want to come to your ceiligh!

*hugs* Simmy - moving is so horribly stressful, but I'm sure the house will be fine once you've had the windows open, given it a good air and a clean :0)

I hate moving too. When we got this place, it had been left in a absolutely filthy state. We spent a whole week cleaning and painting everywhere white!!

Geranium essential oil in an oil burner works wonders .... :0)
