I got this Japanese craft book a while ago and I really liked the bunny on the cover. So with the excitement of having a new pattern to work with I immediately got on with it. I must have chosen the wrong fabric for the face maybe because I just did not like the result and I abandonded the project straight away. I didn't like the way the pattern had three darts (is that what they're called) on the face making the face look sad or mean. There's a pic here of it.
Then yesterday I decided that I needed a break from knitting and I found the book on my shelves and decided to have another crack at it. This time I knew I wanted the face to look more like Jeremy's - a cat that I made way back and blogged about here. Have you met him before? If not go and have a quick peek - he's quite a character. Anyway, back to the bunny - I used the same pattern for the face but slightly smaller and I used an old woolen jumper. Happy with the results I proceeded with the rest of it and this is how it turned out:
There was a time when I'd make a face and just put the features on but I don't know what's going on in my head these days because I tried out a few ideas before I sewed them on:
Too much time on my hands I think. Anyway, I finally settled for the face in the main pic and that's that. I'm now inspired to make a few more things from my other Japanese craft books (I only have 4) as I've got back into the swing of it AND now that my fabric is organised and I can see what I have.
It was really nice yesterday because I got an impromptu making day. In the morning everyone was at home and then suddenly after a few phone calls everyone had gone to play or meet up with friends and I had the house to myself. Bliss. First off I made pumpkin pie as promised. I'd been sent a few recipes by you lovely folk and a few tips. There was a great recipe from Stephanie but I discovered too late that I needed tinned pumpkin. Never mind, I'll save that one for next weekend. Instead I used a recipe that Cristina had sent me for which I did have the ingredients. It was simple. I made the same pastry as I used for the prune and chocolate tart and the filling was a mixture of pumpkin, double cream, eggs and spices. The verdict?
It was delicious. Soft like egg custard. Subtly spiced. I can't believe that I haven't made it before. I suppose I only buy pumpkin once a year for halloween and I use the innards of that in soup. This is the first year we've grown it. Well, I still have some more in the fridge and a couple in the garden so I'll be trying out the recipes you all sent. There's a particularly nice sounding one from Max too.
As I was saying I got the pumpkin pie made first and then I stuck some pork in the oven to cook for 24 hours. Then I started sewing. Various people came back for lunch and then suddenly we had extras for supper and two friends staying overnight. As the children grow older I guess it's going to be more like this. Well, I have to go and supervise breakfast now...........

oh she is lovely! sweet sweet face. whats her name?

Hello bunny girl with your sweet expression.
So glad the pumpkin pie turned out well, you've made me drool on my keyboard!

Sweet bunny is wonderful. But could you save the gloomy one by making the point where the three darts meet the nose and moving the eyes way down? I hate to think of him languishing unredeemed in a box somewhere. Or you could feed him some pumpkin pie--that would cheer me up.

While you're playing with pumkin you need to try this recipe. It's definitely a "where have you been all my life" recipe :)

I think its a very cute bunny. Japanese craft magazines are another thing I've learnt about through blogging. Although I shan't indulge in one just yet as my list of gifts for Christmas is getting longer and longer and longer!
